Taking lessons learned from years of experience and insiders’ knowledge, we set out to create digital tools that combine navigation services, shop-and-compare, personalized assistance and the largest selection of cash-pay providers in America within one consumer-friendly application.
As the Senior Product Manager, I led cross-team and cross-department efforts to create and launch our consumer-facing digital product. Our target consumer is one who does not have traditional insurance, is underinsured or desires cash-pay practices to save money and avoid high deductibles. While the primary mobile application supports free ‘basic’ account creation for all, additional features and data are available for members of our Clients who create and connect to their active memberships.
I led strategy discussions with internal stakeholders, industry experts and external stakeholders to determine business objectives and develop standardized actions that aligned with the needs of prospective and current clients.
I managed and mentored junior product managers and business analysts to encourage best practices and creative thinking for solving large industry issues.
I led cross-functional development teams using Agile methodologies to define and refine road maps and user-centered design thinking in decision making for market research, data & product vision, wire-framing and preliminary actions. Together, we achieved a successful MVP launch within our target timeline, generated a proprietary algorithm for best cash pay offerings accounting for regional cost-of-living differences, and integrated with third party providers for services like discounts on prescription medications.
Through collaboration with Engineering and leadership, we developed a best-in-class member data strategy to allow Dependents on a primary member’s plan to access technology tools and maintain their HIPAA-protected patient history. This work allowed new and existing Clients to formally support digital tools for Dependents securely, often for the first time in their own product offerings.
With our app, we succeeded with the following KPIs:
Members: price comparison feature with navigation and negotiation services resulting in up to 44% lower medical costs
Clients: Reducing member churn up to 20%
Users: Net Promoter Score of 56. That’s better than AmEx (55), Amazon Prime (53), and Allstate (40)
Our scalability plan happily includes immediate growth opportunity. Point Health acquired a healthcare support company called Karis Group, and they came to our organization with 700,000 members in 25+ health plan clients, creating a built-in network of warm prospective Clients eager to grow their services.
